Let’s face it, there are plenty of people who are perfectly comfortable naked – but for many, nudity is quite a problem. Most people would say of themselves that I’m not a shy person, but when it comes to getting fully naked, I feel like I need a serious attitude adjustment.
5 tips on how to feel more comfortable naked
Be realistic
The media has always managed to perfect the looks of models and celebrities. And even though you may know that the pictures you see aren’t real, you’re left at the register saying, “Damn, she looks so good in contrast to my body and me … ”
Enough of that! If you’re comparing yourself to girlfriends or other women at the gym, stop doing it starting today. Stop comparing your body to others’, because it’s yours. And it’s time to love it.
Your Commitment: During the next month, how about writing down everything you love about your body and replacing every negative thought with just those positive thoughts?
For example, it might look like this:
- Negative thought: I hate my fat calves. Or: I hate my misshapen knees.
- Positive thought: I love the fact that I can go wherever I want to go in a self-determined way. I can get out of my bed and go wherever I want without assistance and without having to rely on the whims of others, and thereby do whatever I want.
It’s not about pushing away the negative feelings, it’s about recognizing the value of your body.
Practice, practice, practice!
Yes, you read that right: You need to practice being naked. How about taking a sauna this month? Or just delay getting dressed for 5 minutes while you put on your makeup in the morning to practice being naked.
Your commitment: during the next month, you will be naked for at least 1 hour total. Write down the times and keep track of it.
Meditation and time for yourself
I know. Meditation is difficult and sounds woo-woo. But meditation can also bring about intense feelings of peace, love and self-acceptance. And there are a lot of free guided meditations on the internet that address these topics. Meditation can help you let go of those old feelings so you can stop feeling so uncomfortable and enjoy your body.
Your Commitment: Meditate for at least 10 minutes every day for the next month. Look for guided meditations on self-confidence, acceptance, and self-love.
Use essential oils.
You know that feeling you get when you walk into a spa? It smells so good that your stress level transforms almost immediately. Experiment with lavender, frankincense, grapefruit, basil, sandalwood and other oils. The more relaxed and content you are, the easier it will be to be naked.
Your commitment: over the next month, buy at least 1 or 2 essential oils and consciously notice the scents.
Do something for yourself every day that makes you feel good.
When you feel good about yourself, things seem to take care of themselves. Take the time to visit a sick friend or look for your neighbor’s lost dog. Take time to reflect on your day, week and month. Treat yourself to a massage. For once, do anything that makes you feel good.
Your Commitment: During the next month, you will do something every day that makes you feel good. The decision is entirely up to you. Just keep track of what feels good and write it down.
