Jenny Casswell

Disaster Response Programme, GSMA

Jenny works in GSMA’s Disaster Response programme which works with the mobile industry and humanitarian partners to improve access to communication and information for those affected by crisis in order to reduce the loss of life and to positively contribute to humanitarian response. Jenny leads on generating insights into how and where mobile technology is impacting the humanitarian sphere from natural disasters, the digitization of humanitarian aid, and refugee crises. Jenny has conducted field research across East Africa, focusing on the socio-economic impact of mobile connectivity on refugees, and the role of mobile technology in improving humanitarian response through humanitarian cash transfers. Jenny holds a BA (Hons) in Geography from Oxford University, where her research focused on the transformational impact of mobile money service, M-Pesa, in the Rift Valley, Kenya.
